Immersion heater for surplus solar power
retrofit and generate hot water

1.

Your solar system generates electricity. However, more than you currently need.

2.

A smart meter reader detects your surplus and instead of feeding it into the grid...

3.

…the system controls the immersion heater according to the available surplus power. The heating output is thereby adjusted to the measured values.

4.

The available solar power is used for domestic hot water heating. Depending on your previous method of heat generation and the amount of surplus energy actually available, this can reduce the use of other energy sources for hot water preparation. If you would like to distinguish between the terms heating element, immersion heater, screw-in heater and portable immersion heater, you can find our terminology guide here.

BENEFITS

Your benefits with the novolto immersion heater

Power connection via earthed socket

Connect using the pre-installed power cord to a suitable earthed socket. If modifications to the fixed electrical installation are necessary, these must be carried out professionally. The front panel can be rotated for alignment after screwing it into place.

Adjustable output up to 3,000 watts

The heating output can be adjusted to the available surplus solar power.

Multiple measurement solutions possible

Automatic surplus solar power control requires a supported measurement solution, such as a compatible Shelly device, Tibber Pulse or poweropti, or a suitable system connected through MQTT. Check that your chosen solution works with your electricity meter and is supported by novolto before purchasing.

  • Shelly Meter

Supported Shelly energy meters can also provide readings for the novolto controller. Check in advance whether your specific Shelly model and setup are supported.

  • Adjustable up to 3,000 watts

The heating output can be adjusted to the available surplus solar power. This allows even surplus below the maximum device output to be used for domestic hot water heating.

  • Corrosion-resistant material

According to novolto, the heating pipes are manufactured from material 2.4858. The material is corrosion-resistant; however, limescale deposits can still occur with hard water and should be taken into account during maintenance.

  • Installation and operation

The immersion heater is installed as a screw-in immersion heater. Once installed, the front can be aligned. Operation and automatic control are managed via the novolto web app; for installation, the storage tank approval and the complete installation instructions are authoritative.

Test for 30 days

Try your immersion heater for 30 days from delivery under our money-back offer. Properly installed and tested heaters can be returned undamaged, complete with all supplied accessories and in the original packaging. Customers pay return shipping for non-defective returns. Novolto covers return shipping for defective devices. Your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.

Corrosion-resistant material

The heating pipes are made of material 2.4858. Even with corrosion-resistant materials, limescale deposits can form depending on water hardness and temperature; maintenance and descaling depend on the conditions of your system.

FAQ

Immersion heater, storage tank and surplus solar power

What is the difference between an immersion heater, a heating cartridge, and a screw-in heater?

+

The terms are used with some overlap in the field of electric water heating. The novolto product is an electric screw-in immersion heater permanently installed in the storage tank. Colloquially, the term immersion heater is sometimes also used for electric immersion immersion heaters; however, a portable kitchen immersion heater is not the same as a permanently installed storage tank immersion heater.

Does the immersion heater fit into hot water tanks, buffer tanks, or boilers?

+

What matters is not the name of the storage tank, but the connection, installation space, and manufacturer approval. The novolto immersion heater has a G 1½-inch connection thread and is installed horizontally. For storage tanks without a suitable sleeve, a suitable flange solution may be considered, depending on the design.

How does the immersion heater use surplus solar power?

+

A compatible measuring device records performance data at the service connection. In automatic mode, the heating output is based on the measured surplus data and uses the available solar power for domestic hot water heating. In manual mode, however, grid power can also be drawn.

Which electricity meters work with novolto?

+

Automatic surplus solar power control requires a supported measurement solution, such as a compatible Shelly device, Tibber Pulse or poweropti, or a suitable system connected through MQTT. Check that your chosen solution works with your electricity meter and is supported by novolto before purchasing.

Can I control the immersion heater locally without the cloud?

+

Yes. For technically proficient users, local control via MQTT is possible. The currently required MQTT settings are available from novolto upon request. For standard operation, the novolto web app remains available.

1

This is how I integrate the immersion heater into my network.

To connect your immersion heater to Wi-Fi, press the immersion heater button. When the left LED lights up blue, connect to the "novolto..." network via Wi-Fi.

Now simply use the included QR code (No. 1), or scan the code from here. Select Wi-Fi, enter the password, confirm, and you're done.

For LAN operation, you must restart your smart immersion heater after plugging in the LAN cable. To do this, unplug it once, wait ten seconds, and then plug it back into the power outlet.

2

How to register the immersion heater

The delivery of your immersion heater includes another QR code (No. 2). This can be used to register your immersion heater using the serial number and PIN.

You can also find the same QR code on your immersion heater's type plate.

You can also register your immersion heater without a QR code. To do this, you need to manually enter the serial number and PIN at https://novolto.app.

  • Observe the

    Operating manual

Make sure to follow the included Installation and operating manual (German) during every step of the installation. Important: Never connect the immersion heater to the power outlet while it is outside of the storage tank.

During installation, ensure that you seal the thread and turn your smart immersion heater carefully when aligning it.
